Theme: Clos de Vougeot, Meursault Premier Cru.
Present: Sir David of Kardinia, Sir David of Cirro, Sir Ian of Palatte, Sir Samuel of Pontifico, Sir Leon of Romanee, Sir Russell of Epicure, Sir Stephan of Grammar, Sir Ralph of Plenty, Sir Thomas of Stocks, Sir Colin of Chambers, Sir Philip of Oporto, Sir Paul of Rousseau.
Food:
First Course – Seared scallops, steamed ‘chawan mushi’ custard, miso dressing.
Second Course – Brioche ‘Charlotte’ filled with a mushroom ragu, wilted water spinach, truffle poached quail egg, porcini mushroom sauce.
Third Course – ‘Aiguillette’ of twice cooked duck breast, Peking cabbage filled with Asian flavours, duck sauce with hoisin.
Fourth Course – Cheese.
Fifth course – Chilled mango and raspberry parfait with Silvan Estate Monbulk raspberries.
Wines:
1. NV Christian Bourmault Brut Champagne Cuvee Grand Eloge (SC): Pale yellow. Fresh, citrusy nose. Palate full with effervescence, good mouthful. Could use a little age. Not ranked;
2. 1998 Meursault Les Perrieres (Boyer Martenot) (SD): Gold. Fine, restrained nose, some development. Palate with a little maturation, very good structure and aftertaste, acidity. Will improve. Ranked 8th;
